Family Assistance Program

Family Assistance Program

Feeding Matters understands that many families face significant financial difficulty due to the high costs of treating feeding disorders, and the overall lack of insurance coverage. Once a year, we open the Family Assistance Program. Since 2019, we have awarded $40,000 to families throughout the United States. Feeding Matters will award $1,000 grants to ten families.

Applications are now open for 2025!

Who is eligible to apply?

Any parent or legal guardian of a child under the age of 18 years old with a feeding disorder who can demonstrate financial need may apply for financial assistance from the Family Assistance Program. Applicants must reside in the United States. Feeding Matters founders, directors, officers, staff, selection committee, council members, community advisors, substantial contributors, and their family members are not eligible to apply in order to eliminate bias. Also, past recipients of the Family Assistance Program are not eligible to apply a second time.

Can I apply if my child has health insurance coverage?

Yes, you may apply even if your child has health insurance coverage. The application for assistance will ask you to list costs that have not been covered by your insurance provider. Examples of expenses traditionally not covered by insurance include but are not limited to:

  • Healthcare specialists not covered by insurance (registered dietitian nutritionist, clinical psychologist, psychiatrist, etc.)
  • Feeding tube supplies (additional ng tubes, g-tubes, syringes, extensions, etc.)
  • Feeding programs (weekly, intensive)
  • Travel for treatment and/or appointments (lodging, gas, portable refrigerator, etc.)
  • Specialty formula and supplements (pediasure, thickeners, etc.)
  • Household items necessary for caring or a child with PFD (blenders, adaptive seating, specialty utensils, etc.)
